February is Black History Month and we’d like to take this opportunity to celebrate and honor the contributions and legacy of African Americans throughout history who have paved the way for today’s entrepreneurs and scientists, athletes and teachers, leaders and trail blazers.

At just 29-years-old, Erin Jackson, is the first Black woman to win the speed skating medal at the Winter Olympics. Although, Jackson, spent her life on rollerblades, she led Team USA to their first event win since 1994.

The PNC Foundation is awarding more than two-million dollars to five HBCU’s across North Carolina. The newly established, HBCU Initiative, an effort that aims to enrich the future of entrepreneurship and create workforce opportunities in the state. These grants will enhance the opportunities HBCU’s can provide, such as the introduction of new programs, capacity building opportunities, and technology enhancements.

NCBiotech Awards $1.3 Million

NC Biotechnology Center awarded seventeen grants and loans to universities, bioscience companies, and non-profit organizations. The awarded $1.3 million will support life science research, technology commercialization and entrepreneurship throughout North Carolina. SonoVol, Ideal Medical Technologies, and NeuroGT were just a few of the Small Businesses to receive the loan.
